When children are getting their first haircut it can be a particularly harrowing experience. Especially when the person doing the cut handles the situation in a gruff manner. Indeed, this is especially true with the very little ones who are anywhere from several months to 3 years old. The person doing the cut should take great care in talking to the child, and also approach them in a very easy-going and light way. They should make the haircut a fun experience by doing bubbles, trying to get the child to laugh, and do whatever it takes to make them happy.

Food and candy always are a good distractor as I've mentioned before. When doing a child's hair, barbers, and hairstylist should always try to envision the childs point of view. What would it be like having this huge person near you doing an activity that you are not familiar with? That's the childs viewpoint. One can minimize this, again by being light-hearted, and humorous. Also, keep the scissors out of sight as much as possible. In addition, try not to look the child directly in the eye. Having an adult doing this seems to frighten them, so look away when you can. For the most part if the haircut is made enjoyable, and entertaining, they will do fine.
